Did you know?

In 2015, the Federal Transit Authority (FTA) posted regulations in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) stating that a barrier must be put in place “to prevent, deter or warn individuals from inadvertently stepping off the platform between cars.” (49 CFR 38.63 Between-Car Barriers).

RAPID RAIL TRANSIT INDUSTRY SPECIALTY PRODUCT

RETRACTA-BELT® Between-Car Barrier (BCB)

The BCB412 is a specialized RETRACTA-BELT® designed specifically for on-rail-car, Between-Car Barrier applications. We’ve upgraded our standard WM412 Series RETRACTA-BELT wall mount with more robust construction and features to withstand the heavy requirements of constant outdoor rail transit.

Impact-resistant polycarbonate box houses a stronger internal spring and aluminum and stainless steel components in critical wear and breakage points.

15′ belt with universal warning Black/Yellow Diagonal design.

Belt has thicker webbing with ScotchGuard protective coating.

Upgraded aluminum Receiving End withstands more than typical wear and tear.

Opt for a left or ride side belt exit.

Upgrade to a 20′, 25′ or 30′ long belt to suit your application.

Choose any belt color from our 25 options in stock, or add your own branding or message with silk screen printing.

Standard unit has a black body. Or you can choose Red or Yellow.

Upgrade to a BCB412 Receiver Box for uniform look.

What’s the advantage of a retractable belt for this application versus using chain barriers?

A chain must have enough swag to stretch as railcars go around a bend, but not too much swag that chains drag on the ground or tangle up in other chain when they sag even more when traveling around inside curves. A chain with too much swag can’t be mounted at a uniform height and can be ineffective as a warning device.

A retractable belt is a more effective warning device. It stretches and contracts around bends and stays taught and at a consistent height at all times. The internal components of our RETRACTA-BELT models have been tested over decades and are proven to remain effective through constant use and abuse.

FEATURES

The proven, go-to solution for transit customers.

Originally developed for Siemens (San Fran Muni) and Valley Metro, the RETRACTA-BELT® BCB412 Series has proven itself as a preferred and affordable on-car BCB solution. It has been tested and deployed among various mass transit authorities such as Hudson-Bergen and Metro Houston.

Thicker belt webbing, a stronger internal spring and metal components in critical wear and breakage points are just a few upgrades to meet the heavy requirements of constant outdoor rail transit.

Types of Visiontron Between-Car Barriers

Visiontron manufactures a variety of products that can be utilized for on-car or on-platform Between-Car Barriers. Platform barriers are suitable for GoA 2-4 (Grades of Automation) systems. Because they are fully automatic, trains can stop at the same specific location at each station. Mounted stanchions with retractable belts, chains or panels that are permanently installed on the platform block the gap between cars and clearly guide travelers to the correct doorways to board the train. Crew-operated rapid rail GoA (Grade of Automation) 0-1 level-boarding systems cannot guarantee alignment with on-platform BCBs. Therefore, the solution is to attach BCB412 units onto the rail cars to help travelers avoid the gaps.

On-Car Retractable Belt Barriers

  • BCB142 units are securely mounted on train cars.
  • Belts extend and retract easily to accommodate as trains round turns.
  • Belts can provide safety messages, warning graphics and/or bright colors.
  • Outdoor-rated materials are weather resistant.

Q-PANEL® Rigid Barriers

  • Metal framed panels mounted on stanchion posts create a rigid barrier wall.
  • Insert materials can vary, from frosted Plexiglas to printed signage.
  • Opportunity to generate advertising revenue and protect the gap between cars.
  • Learn more about Q-PANEL Rigid Systems.

On-Platform Retractable Belt Barriers

  • Aluminum stanchions mounted onto the platform.
  • ADA-compliant dual line, retractable belts can provide safety messages, warning graphics and/or bright colors.
  • Outdoor-rated materials are weather resistant.
