FEATURED PROJECT · STADIUM RETAIL & CROWD FLOW

Putting LA Galaxy Merchandise in the Spotlight—Without Disrupting the Concourse

At Dignity Health Sports Park, the LA Galaxy Operations Manager wanted to make a concourse apparel stand more visible while improving the way its queue interacted with surrounding pedestrian traffic. Visiontron upgraded the existing single-line RETRACTA-BELT® posts with custom-printed 48-inch by 34-inch Heavy Duty Q-PANEL® units, creating stronger visual definition and a more organized customer path without rebuilding the system from scratch.

THE PROJECT STORY

The Store Needed to Stand Out Without Disrupting the Concourse

The apparel stand already used Visiontron stanchions, but its queue lacked the visual presence the LA Galaxy Operations Manager wanted for a retail location on a busy stadium concourse. The existing line also extended into surrounding pedestrian circulation, making it harder to distinguish the shopping queue from the flow of guests moving through the venue.

More Retail Presence and Clearer Queue Definition

The completed upgrade gave the apparel stand a branded perimeter that is easier to recognize from the concourse while establishing a clearer customer path around the retail area. Rather than treating the existing queue as something that had to be removed and rebuilt, Visiontron evaluated which components were still compatible and useful. The existing posts became the foundation for the improvement, allowing the project budget to remain focused on the elements that directly addressed the problem: rigid queue definition, lower panel support and custom-branded graphics. This targeted approach reduced unnecessary equipment replacement and improved the guest-facing retail environment.

THE UPGRADE SYSTEM

An Upgrade Built Around What Was Already Working

Instead of replacing the existing single-line posts with new dual-line stanchions, Visiontron added PNL4834BA-BS Heavy Duty Q-PANEL units. Each 48-inch by 34-inch panel used a Black Anodized aluminum frame and custom-printed LA Galaxy graphics. Because the existing posts were single line, lower support bungees secured the bottoms of the panels and added the stability needed for the outdoor concourse installation.

01

RETRACTA-BELT Stanchions

The apparel stand’s existing queue used VS301BA-BK Value Series single-line RETRACTA-BELT posts with upgraded WEATHER-PROTECT bases. These compatible posts remained serviceable and were reused for the Q-PANEL upgrade. The Value Series has since been retired as Visiontron introduced newer options: PRIME HD PHD101BA-BK may be appropriate for a smaller queue with suitably sized panels, while larger panels or more demanding layouts may require the premium 300 Series. When maximum panel stability is the priority, Visiontron’s preferred recommendation is a dual-line 300 Series configuration.

Heavy Duty Q-PANEL System

The 48-inch by 34-inch Heavy Duty Q-PANEL frames create the rigid physical boundary that better defines the apparel stand and its customer path. The Black Anodized aluminum coordinates with the existing black posts, while lower support bungees stabilize the panel bottoms on the single-line installation.

Custom-Printed Panel Inserts

Custom-printed inserts turn the functional barrier system into part of the LA Galaxy retail environment. The branded graphics increase the apparel stand’s visibility from the concourse and give the upgraded queue a finished appearance connected to the team and venue. LA Galaxy selected one-sided custom printing for this installation. Two-sided printing is also available when branded graphics or messaging need to be visible from both sides of the queue.

WHY THE UPGRADE WORKED

Greater Store Visibility Without Sacrificing Concourse Flow

A Store That Is Easier to Find

The branded panel perimeter gives the apparel stand a stronger visual presence on the concourse and helps distinguish it from the activity around it.

A More Organized Customer Path

Rigid panels create clearer queue definition than the previous stanchion-only arrangement and make the intended shopping line easier to understand.

Better Concourse Circulation

A more clearly contained retail queue reduces ambiguity between customers waiting for the store and guests moving through the surrounding concourse.

An Upgrade Without Unnecessary Replacement

Compatible existing posts became the foundation for the new panel system, helping control project costs and directing the investment toward the visibility, branding and queue-definition improvements the location actually needed.

THE BIGGER LESSON

A Better Queue Does Not Always Mean Starting Over

Not every queue improvement requires a complete redesign. As traffic patterns, branding requirements and operational priorities change, a well-planned system may be expanded, upgraded or reconfigured instead of discarded. Reusing compatible equipment can extend the value of an earlier investment, help control project costs and concentrate spending on the changes that create the greatest operational and customer-facing benefit. For the LA Galaxy, this apparel-stand upgrade continued an established relationship that already included 100 Visiontron 300 Series MINI-SOCKET® posts—50 single-line and 50 dual-line units—plus WM412SB20-BK wall-mounted barriers with 20-foot black belts and smooth black casings. The team later returned for additional posts and is considering equipment for future concession-stand needs. That progression shows how adaptable crowd-control equipment can support the customer experience, operational efficiency and long-term financial value across multiple areas of a venue.

PROJECT QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

What problem was the LA Galaxy apparel-stand upgrade designed to solve?

The goal was to make the apparel stand more visible, create a more organized shopping queue and reduce interference between the line and general pedestrian flow on the stadium concourse.

Which Q-PANEL model was used?

The project used PNL4834BA-BS Heavy Duty Q-PANEL units. Each panel measures 48 inches by 34 inches and has a Black Anodized aluminum frame.

Were the LA Galaxy panels custom printed?

Yes. The panel inserts were custom printed with LA Galaxy branding. The project used a standard panel size and frame configuration rather than custom-fabricated frames or modified hardware.

Can Q-PANEL inserts be custom printed on both sides?

Yes. This project used one-sided custom printing, but two-sided printed inserts are also available for layouts where graphics or messaging should face guests approaching from multiple directions.

Why were lower support bungees used?

The existing Visiontron posts were single line, so the panel bottoms could not connect to a second lower belt cassette. Support bungees secure the lower portion of each panel and provide added stability for the outdoor concourse installation.

Did the project require new stanchion posts?

No. Compatible existing Visiontron single-line posts were reused, making this a targeted panel upgrade rather than a completely new queue installation.

What stanchion system does Visiontron recommend for a new Q-PANEL installation?

The recommendation depends on the queue size, panel dimensions, environment and required stability. PRIME HD may be suitable for a smaller queue using appropriately sized panels. Larger panels or more demanding layouts may require the premium 300 Series. When maximum sturdiness and panel stability are the priorities, Visiontron generally recommends a dual-line 300 Series configuration.

Was the LA Galaxy apparel-stand system delivered on schedule?

Yes. The project was completed on time.

Had the LA Galaxy used other Visiontron systems before this project?

Yes. The venue had previously purchased 100 Visiontron 300 Series MINI-SOCKET® posts—50 single-line and 50 dual-line units—along with WM412SB20-BK wall-mounted barriers from the WM412 Series. These units were configured with 20-foot black belts and smooth black casings. The LA Galaxy later returned for additional posts before choosing Visiontron for this apparel-stand upgrade, and additional equipment is being considered for future concession-stand needs.
